Gm's New Regional Premium Brands Director and New Super Car Challenge
General Motors has recently announced their newly appointed regional premium brands director. Mohammed Hmeid was chosen as the new premium brands editor and expected to bring some fresh ideas and perspective in marketing the different brands of the automaker.
Hmeid joins General Motors in early 2006 and previously held a position as product and portfolio planning manager & new business development. While at the position he acted as the key representative for the Middle East and was in charge of product planning, business and organization as well as managing different types of product portfolio which includes leading and managing the Armoured Vehicle project sales, aftersales and marketing through effective implementation.
Hmeid in his new role as regional premium brands director, he will be responsible for various marketing activities, aftersales and dealer support of various GM brands like Cadillac, Saab and HUMMER. For this year his main focus is to effectively re-launch the Saab brand in the region. He will also make sure that customers will be able to get the ultimate ownership experience out from owning Cadillac, Saab and HUMMER. He is also to focus on expanding the business by taking every available opportunity there is for growth.
Terry Johnson, Managing Director of GM in the Middle East has expressed her gladness in the appointment of Hmeid. She said, “I am very pleased to welcome Mohammed to this new position. His rich background will help grow the Premium Brands business. He is results driven and has great diverse business knowledge with propensity to explore new opportunities and translate them into unique concepts and consumer offerings.”
Before joining General Motors Hmeid was the brand manager at British American Tobacco and has also held the same position in BMW Group Middle East. “It is a great time to be working on these exciting brands and to be able to play a part in their growth,” said Hmeid.
Hmeid has replaced Chase Hawkins who was the regional division marketing director for Premium Brands from 2005 to 2006 and transferred recently to South Africa to occupy the same position of sales director at GM South Africa.
In other GM news: General Motors has accepted the Dodge Viper challenge. According to Chairman Bob Lutz, the new 600 horsepower 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 won’t be keeping its title as the king-of-the-road for long once GM releases its Corvette Blue Devil which is said to be the automaker’s next generation super sports car.
“As you all know, it is not our policy to discuss future product programs. However…,” he said to humor the audience, “it is very important for Corvette to be the most powerful, most capable, best handling sports car in the United States.” And of course in order to make the Corvette Blue Devil to become the super sports car it needs quality auto parts, the best that General Motors can produce. Come to think of it, GM has always been a leader when it comes to production of top-of-the-line car parts and an example of which is its line of GM fender flares which are popular for their quality and durability.
Lutz has also acknowledged that the top-level horsepower of GM’s Corvette was surpassed by a recent competitor but quickly added “the Corvette vehicle line executive will not take that lying down.”
According to Bob Gitzinger, Senior Editor for news at AutoWeek magazine, Chevrolet is developing a Corvette that is known in several names: the Blue Devil, Stingray, Devil Ray or SS. “We all know the new Corvette is out there. The car is in development and it’s been speculated that it will have about 650 horsepower…It’s supposed to be here in 2009.”

Radio News $121.08 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Radio News was an American monthly technology magazine published from 1919 to 1971. The magazine was started by Hugo Gernsback as a magazine for amateur radio enthusiasts, but it evolved to cover all the technical aspects to radio and electronics. In 1929 a bankruptcy forced the sale of Gernsbacks publishing company to B. A. Mackinnon. In 1938 ZiffDavis Publishing acquired the magazines. In 1904 Hugo Gernsback established Electro Importing Company to sell radio components and electrical supplies by mail order. The catalogs had detailed instructions on projects like a wireless telegraph outfit and were the predecessor of his first magazine, Modern Electrics (April 1908). In May 1913 he started another magazine, The Electrical Experimenter. The magazines would have Gernsbacks bold predictions of the future as well as fiction. In 1926 he started the magazine Amazing Stories and coined the term scientifiction which became science fiction. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. NBC News $90.81 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The first American television newscast in history was made by NBC News on February 21, 1940, anchored by Lowell Thomas and airing weeknights at 6:45 pm. In 1948, NBC teamed up with Life magazine to provide election night coverage of President Harry S. Trumans surprising victory over New York Gov. Thomas E. Dewey. The television audience was small, but NBCs share in New York was double that of any other outlet. The following year, the Camel News Caravan, anchored by John Cameron Swayze, began on NBC. Lacking the graphics and technology of later years, it nonetheless contained many of the elements of modern newscasts. NBC hired its own film crews and in the programs early years, it dominated CBSs competing program, which did not hire its own film crews until 1953. News to Me $23 Laurie Hertzel wasn't yet a teenager in Duluth, Minnesota, when she started her first newspaper, which she appropriately christened Newspaper. Complete with the most sensational headlines of the day-MARGO FLUEGEL HAS ANOTHER BIRTHDAY!-and with healthy competition from her little brothers and their rival publication, Magapaper (a magazine and a newspaper), this venture would become Hertzel's first step toward realizing what her heart was already set on: journalism as her future. News to Me is the adventurous story of Hertzel's journey into the bustling world of print journalism in the mid-1970s, a time when copy was still banged out on typewriters by chain-smoking men in fedoras and everybody read the paper. A coming-of-age tale in more ways than one, Hertzel's eighteen-year career at the Duluth News Tribune began when journalism was a predominantly male profession. And while the newspaper trade was booming, Duluth had fallen on difficult times as factories closed and more and more people moved away. Hertzel describes her climb up the ranks of the paper against the backdrop of a Midwestern city during a time of extraordinary change. She was there during major events like the Congdon murders, the establishment of the BWCA, and the rise of Indian treaty rights, and eventually follows the biggest story of her life to Soviet Russia-and completely blows her deadline. Written with the insight and humor of someone who makes a living telling stories, News to Me is the chronicle of a small-city newspaper on the cusp of transformation, an affectionate portrait of Duluth and its people, and the account of a talented, persistent journalist who witnessed it all and was changing right along with it-whether she wanted to or not. (Oh, Newspaper doggedly outlasted the full-color Magapaper). |
